"Kind of a pain to use on my phone"
I tried using it on my phone the other day, and it was frustrating. The pages would load in a weird way, then just as I was about to tap something, everything would jump around. It made the whole thing feel harder to use than it should be.

I was pleasantly surprised. The ads were there, but they weren’t obnoxious or constantly getting in the way like on a lot of news sites. I could actually read the articles without pop-ups taking over the screen, which I really appreciated

"Good local news, but the paywall gets old"
I use Oregonian often for local news, the reporting is usually solid. But, uh, the paywall shows up really fast, which gets annoying when I’m just trying to read one quick article. I get it, they need to make money, but sometimes it feels like a bit much. Still a useful site, just... not always worth the extra hassle.

I used to go to oregonlive.com regularly for local news, but lately I’m a little confused by the way the political articles come across. It feels like the angle is already decided before I even start reading, and sometimes I can’t really tell if I’m looking at actual reporting or someone’s opinion.
I’m not against hearing different viewpoints at all, but I just want the news to feel more straightforward. Lately it feels like I’m being nudged in one direction, and I guess I don’t really know what I’m supposed to take from it anymore. It’s made me stop checking the site as much.

"Pretty handy for keeping up"
I signed up for the oregonlive emails, they’re useful most days. I like getting a mix of Portland news, weather updates, and a little sports here and there without having to go look for it myself. Every now and then there are more headlines than I really care about, but that’s not a huge deal. Overall, it’s been a nice way to stay in the loop.

"Logging in feels really inconsistent"
Some days I can get into my account with no problem at all, and other times it randomly kicks me out or just won’t let me stay logged in. It’s not the biggest issue in the world, but it gets frustrating fast when I’m just trying to check something quickly. I really wish it was more reliable, because having to deal with this over and over makes the whole experience feel disappointing.

"Decent, just feels a little spendy"
I do like checking Oregonian for local stuff, and some of the stories are actually helpful. But for what the subscription costs, I expected a bit more... fewer ads maybe, and updates that feel more consistent. Some articles are worth it, others I just scroll past. It’s not bad at all, just kinda hard to feel like it’s a great deal

"Feels like nobody owns the content anymore"
I used to really enjoy the articles, but lately the quality has gone downhill. A lot of them feel rushed, barely edited, and like no one is really taking responsibility for how they turn out. It’s hard to tell who’s actually owning the content now, and it shows.

I tried to cancel my oregonlive.com subscription it was way more frustrating than it should’ve been. Maybe I’m biased because I really prefer services that let you cancel with one clear button, but this felt like getting bounced around on purpose. Support took too long to respond, and I still ended up getting charged. For me, it just wasn’t worth the hassle

"Weather updates can be hit or miss"
I check Oregonian often for local news, but not gonna lie, the weather updates have been kind of frustrating lately. Sometimes the forecast stories show up later than I’d expect, and the headlines can make things sound more dramatic than they actually are.
I still use it when storms are coming through, but I wish the updates were more frequent and easier to follow. Stuff like radar links and school closure info should be easier to find, especially when the weather is actually getting rough

"Fast and easy to use"
I check oregonlive.com regularly for local news, and it’s been really useful for quick updates. The pages load fast on my phone, even when I’m just using regular data. There are ads, but they don’t slow things down too much. I like that I can open a story, read it, and move on without waiting around

"Easy way to keep up with local news"
I check OregonLive regularly when I want to see what’s going on around Portland and the rest of Oregon. It’s usually updated fast, and it’s easy enough to skim through when I’ve only got a few minutes. I wouldn’t say it’s perfect every time, but for staying in the loop, yeah, it does the job.

"Comment moderation can feel a little inconsistent"
Overall, the site is fine and I still use it, but the comment moderation can feel random at times. I’ve seen perfectly normal comments disappear while much harsher or rude ones stay up. It makes the whole experience a bit confusing, because good moderation should help people feel like the conversation is fair and worth participating in.

I mostly use Oregonian to keep up with the Blazers, Ducks, Beavs, and some high school sports stuff. The updates are usually quick, and the articles generally feel like they’re coming from people who actually know the local scene, not just some random national recap.
I’d probably give it a full five if the ads weren’t a little annoying and the paywall didn’t show up sometimes when I’m just trying to check a score or skim something fast. But overall, it’s still one of the better places for Oregon sports coverage, at least in my experience.

"Fast help, minor hiccup"
I reached out to Oregonian about a subscription/billing issue, and they replied fast. Not instant, but quicker than I figured.
The person who answered clearly read my note and fixed it without making me repeat everything. Big plus.
Only 4 stars because the first auto-reply was a little confusing. After that, support was easy and helpful.
